Online Learning option ending after March 27

* This message was shared by schools via email on March 13.

Dear Robbinsdale Area Schools families,

We are writing to share an update about the temporary online learning option that was offered beginning in January.

This option will end on Friday, March 27, which is the last day of school before Spring Break.

When students return from Spring Break, all students will resume in-person learning on Monday, April 6. This does not include those enrolled at Robbinsdale Virtual Academy (RVA) at the secondary level.

We understand that some families chose online learning because of concerns about federal ICE and border patrol agents in the community. While there has been less federal enforcement activity reported in the Twin Cities recently, we also recognize that some families may still feel fear or uncertainty.

Please know that the safety, dignity and continued education of every student remain our highest priorities.

Our districtwide safety protocols remain in place, and staff are trained to follow them consistently. Protocols include:

  • All visitors must check in at the main office, state the reason for their visit, and provide a government-issued ID.
  • Federal immigration officials cannot enter a school without a valid warrant signed by a judge.
  • If a person comes onto school property without “a legitimate purpose,” or bypasses the process, staff follow safety procedures and contact emergency services if needed.
  • School bus drivers do not allow unauthorized individuals on buses. If a driver feels it is unsafe for students to exit, they will return students to the school and follow safety procedures.
  • The district does not keep information about a family’s immigration status and follows state and federal student privacy laws.

If you need additional support, please reach out to me or another trusted member of our staff. We are committed to supporting all students to the best of our ability.

Thank you for your continued partnership.
